Obituary: Whitney Ball, Head of Conservative Donors' Group

Whitney Ball, a conservative activist who founded and led the philanthropic organization Donors Trust, died Sunday at her home in Alexandria, Va., after a 14-year battle with breast cancer, National Review writes. She was 52.

A West Virginia native, Ms. Ball founded Donors Trust in 1999 after stints with the libertarian Cato Institute and Philanthropy Roundtable. The organization grew into a center for conservative donors and a major contributor to right-leaning and free-market organizations, distributing about $90 million a year.

According to the conservative Capital Research Center, Ms. Ball was active on the issue of donor intent, criticizing "the way fortunes that were built by liberty-loving entrepreneurs have ended up in the hands of [organizations that] despise the free-market system."
