Oprah Stuns D.C. Charity With Impromptu $1 Million Gift

Oprah Winfrey made a surprise $1 million donation Thursday to N Street Village, a Washington, D.C., organization serving homeless and low-income women, The Washington Post writes.

The media mogul made the unscheduled pledge while delivering the keynote address at a benefit luncheon for the nonprofit, filling out a pledge card with the seven-figure gift. Allison Kaminsky Putala, an N Street Village board member, said the donation announcement was unscripted and event organizers had no idea it was coming. “We are obviously beyond thrilled,” she said.
