Environmental and human-rights activist Van Jones talks to Rolling Stone about his decade-long philanthropic relationship with Prince, the pop, funk, and rock superstar who died last week at age 57.
"His cause was humanity," Mr. Jones said of Prince, whom he met 10 years ago when the musician made an initially anonymous $50,000 donation to the advocate's Green for All project, which works to create green jobs in poor communities.
Prince was also involved with #YesWeCode, a group that promotes technology education among urban youths, and supported the Black Lives Matter movement, among other causes. "He would mobilize his network very quietly to weigh in on stuff," Mr. Jones said. "I didn't understand until he passed away how few people knew that."
