Donald Trump, who is currently polling ahead of more than a dozen candidates for the 2016 GOP presidential nomination, is less philanthropic than he has claimed, according to an Associated Press report.
Mr. Trump has said he gave $102 million in cash and land to nonprofits over the past five years, but the report suggests that he may be claiming donations made through his Donald J. Trump Foundation as his own. According to records reviewed by the AP, Mr. Trump has made no charitable contributions to the nonprofit since 2008. Some of Mr. Trump's giving has been directed to nonprofits formed by celebrities or politicians, including the Clinton Foundation.
The bulk of Mr. Trump's donations are non-cash gifts, including a land conservancy that Mr. Trump has pledged to maintain as a driving range and for which he will receive a large tax deduction.
