Retired General Named Interim Wounded Warrior Project COO

Embattled veterans charity the Wounded Warrior Project has turned to a former Army general and member of its advisory board as interim chief operating officer, Jacksonville TV station WJXT reports. Retired Maj. Gen. Charlie Fletcher, who has served as a logistic adviser to NATO since leaving the military after a 30-year career, will take up the post on April 11.

The Jacksonville-based nonprofit fired its chief executive officer, Steven Nardizzi, and COO Al Giordano earlier this month in the wake of media and internal investigations of alleged lavish spending on travel, conferences, and executive pay and intimidation of employees who questioned the group's direction. In a letter to staff, Board Chairman Anthony Odierno said Mr. Fletcher's background in both the military and the private sector make him "uniquely well positioned" to help oversee the charity while it conducts a CEO search.
