Sacramento Mayor Fined Over Nonprofit Fundraising

California regulators levied a $37,500 fine on Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson for failing to report millions of dollars in contributions he solicited for nonprofit groups pursuing his programs, says The Sacramento Bee.

The Fair Political Practices Commission, a state watchdog agency, cited 25 cases in which Mr. Johnson did not report "behest payments" within 30 days of securing them. The donations included payments to groups promoting the mayor's education reforms and his efforts to build a new arena for the city's NBA team, the Sacramento Kings.
