Sierra Club Foundation and Newcombe Fund Get New Leaders

Dan Chu is the new executive director of the Sierra Club Foundation, the fundraising arm of the namesake conservation nonprofit.

Dan Chu will be the new executive director of the fundraising arm of environmental organization the Sierra Club. He replaces Peter Martin, who has led the foundation for eight years.

Mr. Chu is the senior campaign director for Our Wild America, the Sierra Club’s national campaign to protect wild lands and wildlife. He was previously vice president for affiliate and regional strategies at the National Wildlife Federation. He will start his new position on November 28.

Charlotte W. Newcombe Foundation

Gianna Durso-Finley, professor of sociology and assistant dean of the American Honors program at Mercer County Community College, will be executive director.

Friends of the Arava Institute

Miriam May, director of institutional advancement at Harvard Hillel, will be executive director.

Israel Cancer Research Fund Chicago

Steven Mendes, Chicago-area director for the Birthright Israel Foundation, was appointed executive director.

National Youth Leadership Council

Amy Meuers, who has served as interim CEO, was formally given the position.

New York City Opera

Leslie Granger was named director of development and marketing. She is currently chief external-relations officer and vice president for marketing and development at Bideawee, an animal-welfare organization in New York.

Other notable appointments:

Robert Stephen Browning, vice president for distinguished giving for the American Cancer Society’s California division, was appointed vice president for development and donor services at the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona.

Maria Choi, head of fundraising and partnerships at Code.org, was appointed vice president for fundraising and partnerships at Fast Forward.

Cynthia Hallenbeck, chief financial officer for the Environmental Defense Fund, will be chief operating and chief financial officer at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum.

Maryanne Greenfield,vice president for institutional advancement at the Rogosin Institute, will be senior vice president for institutional advancement at NAF, a national network of education, business, and community leaders.

Luke Greeves, executive director of international management and planning at the American Red Cross, was named chief operating officer at Social Progress Imperative.

Marlow Kee, previously executive director of finance at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine, was appointed chief financial officer for the Simons Foundation.

Joan Minieri, former national program director for the Community Learning Partnership, was appointed executive director of the Unitarian Universalist Veatch Program at Shelter Rock.

Riccardo Salmona, vice president for institutional advancement at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, will be senior director of development at the New York City Ballet.

Jennifer Vanore, senior program officer at the UniHealth Foundation, was promoted to vice president for programs.

Departures:

Robert Eckardt, executive vice president of the Cleveland Foundation, will retire on December 31.
