Teach for America Founder Kopp Departing as CEO

Teach for America announced Wednesday that Wendy Kopp, who has led the nonprofit teacher-recruitment program since founding it more than 20 years ago, will step down as its chief executive at the end of the month, Education Week reports.

Ms. Kopp will shift into new role with the charity, serving as chairwoman of its board of directors. She will also remain CEO of Teach for America's affiliated global network, Teach for All. Matt Kramer and Elisa Villanueva, longtime senior managers at Teach for America, will take over as co-chief executives starting March 1.

In a message to current members and alumni of the organization, which recruits thousands of recent college graduates annually to make two-year commitments to teach in low-performing schools, Ms. Kopp said she is "not going anywhere. ... I'll continue my regular visits with groups of you across the country and will keep speaking, writing, and tweeting on behalf of our work."
