Tech Investor Bohnett Gives $20-Million to L.A. Philharmonic

The Los Angeles Philharmonic announced a $20-million donation Wednesday from technology entrepreneur David Bohnett, the Los Angeles Times writes. Half of the gift will endow the orchestra's presidency, with the rest going to the new David C. Bohnett Presidential Fund for Discovery and Innovation to help the philharmonic explore digital routes to reaching new audiences.

Mr. Bohnett co-founded the Web-hosting service GeoCities, which he sold to Yahoo, and invests in tech startups through his private-equity firm, Baroda Ventures. He is a 10-year member of the philharmonic's board of directors and a former president of the panel.
