Turning Board Members Into Effective Fund Raisers

Gail Perry is author of Fired-Up Fundraising: Turn Board Passion into Action.

Most charities recruit board members who have powerful social and professional connections, all with the idea that doing so will raise money. But often those board members aren't prepared for their role as fund raisers.

In the first episode of Fund-Raising Fundamentals, Gail Perry, a consultant and author of Fired-Up Fundraising: Turn Board Passion Into Action, discusses how organizations can motivate their trustees to raise money.

Charities need to keep in mind that board members don't receive the same training as fund raisers, she says, and enlist them for other tasks—such as thanking donors and hosting events—that can be just as important as asking for a gift.

Tony Martignetti, a consultant, author, blogger, and host of Tony Martignetti Nonprofit Radio, talks with nonprofit leaders and consultants about how organizations can more effectively raise money, build better relationships with boards and supporters, and manage volunteers.
