U. of Pennsylvania Official to Lead William Penn Foundation

Peter J. Degnan, a top administrator at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School, has been named managing director of the William Penn Foundation, ending the $2.2-billion philanthropy's 14-month search for a new leader, The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Mr. Degnan, Wharton's vice dean for finance and administration, will join the foundation on March 3, replacing Jeremy Nowak, who stepped down in November 2012 amid differences with the Penn board over implementing a 10-year strategic plan.

Mr. Degnan will directly oversee finance, information technology, and communications at the foundation, along with a new unit to track the effectiveness of its Philadelphia-focused grant making. Helen Picher, a longtime Penn official who served as interim leader, is expected to leave the foundation for other philanthropic activities.
