The University of Southern California has built a powerful development operation that reaches far beyond its Los Angeles campus in pursuit of a $6 billion fundraising target, the Los Angeles Times writes.
Following USC President C.L. Max Nikias on a fundraising trip to Texas, the article details the institution's efforts to raise the final $1.8 billion by the campaign deadline at the end of 2018.
The university has doubled its development staff to 450 people since the ambitious capital campaign began four years ago. It ranked third among U.S. colleges in fundraising last year, bringing in $732 million. Staff members meet with and conduct research on potential foundation and corporate donors and arrange travel for Mr. Nikias and USC deans to meet alumni and parents as far away as Brazil, China, and India.
