Lucy Bernholz wants to help create a world in which communities, donors, charities, and foundations build new tools and platforms to share information for the greater good.
In this world, real-time feeds of foundation grant opportunitiess, government data about nonprofit groups, and information about giving strategies would be accessible and easy to manipulate.
It's a lofty vision, to be sure, but it's one that is easier to achieve than ever before, says Ms. Bernholz, president of Blueprint Research & Design and the author of the blog Philanthropy 2173. She describes the creation of an "ozone of information" about and for pepole working to further social change.
Ms. Bernholz shared this vision on Monday at Philanthropy DataJam—an event in Washington that brought together foundation leaders, nonprofit officials, computer programmers, and social-media experts to discuss how to create and build data platforms for the greater good.
