Wallace Foundation Commits $47 Million for Principal Preparation

The Wallace Foundation will invest $47 million over five years to improve university-level programs for training school principals, reports The Washington Post. The funds will go toward redesigning as many as six such programs, based in part on input from superintendents and administrators in neighboring school districts.

The foundation plans to name the recipient universities by this fall. It pledged $75 million in 2011 to better train and evaluate principals and has commissioned research into what produces effective school leaders, which found that most superintendents are dissatisfied with principal-preparation programs.
