Walters Art Museum Adds Investing to Diversity Push

The Walters Art Museum in Baltimore is bringing its endowment into a larger diversity effort, hiring four minority- or women-owned financial firms to manage portions of its $116 million portfolio, reports The Baltimore Sun. Money managers in Baltimore, Chicago, Cleveland, and Houston will be part of what Ellen Bernard, president of the museum’s board, called a “critical step in aligning investment policy with inclusive practices and excellence in performance.”

The Walters is implementing a strategic plan that puts a priority on diversity and has also produced partnerships with Morgan State University, a historically black college in Baltimore, and the University of Maryland-Baltimore County to create social-issue-oriented programming and mentor aspiring museum professionals from varied backgrounds.
