Walton Fund Pledges $300-Million to Ark. and Miss. Projects

The Walton Family Foundation will significantly increase grant making in what it considers its home turf, committing $302-million over the next six years to educational, cultural, and other programs in northwestern Arkansas and the Arkansas and Mississippi deltas, Northwest Arkansas Online reports.

The Bentonville, Ark.-based foundation built on the Walmart retail fortune will spend $42-million to $50-million annually in the target zones through 2020, not counting statewide education efforts, said Rob Brothers, director of the philanthropy's home region focus area.

Last year the foundation made grants totaling $18.9-million in its northwestern Arkansas backyard and spent $6-million in the delta regions of eastern Arkansas and Western Mississippi.
