Warren Buffett Reveals 2014 Gates Gift of $2.1-Billion

Billionaire investor and philanthropist Warren Buffett's annual stock donation to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is worth $2.1-billion, representing his largest-ever single charitable gift, Bloomberg and Forbes write.

In a regulatory filing Tuesday Mr. Buffett disclosed a gift to the foundation of 16.6 million Class B shares in his investment firm Berkshire Hathaway—5 percent less shares than last year, per the protocol he established with his initial Gates donation in 2006. This year's gift exceeded 2013's in dollar value by about $100-million due to gains in Berkshire Hathaway's stock price.

Mr. Buffett also made stock contributions worth $215-million to the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation, an education charity named for his late wife, and $150-million each to foundations led by his three children, bringing his total donation to nearly $2.8-billion.
