A ethics watchdog group has filed a complaint with the Internal Revenue Service over the Donald J. Trump Foundation's 2013 contribution to a political organization supporting Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, reports The Wall Street Journal. Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington asked the IRS to investigate whether the foundation, which is legally prohibited from engaging in political activity, violated federal law by failing to disclose the $25,000 payment in its tax filings.
The September 2013 contribution to a pro-Bondi PAC reportedly came as the attorney general was weighing legal action against Trump University. Ms. Bondi's office said she did not pursue a case because the office received only one complaint about the mogul's university, which is the subject of a New York State lawsuit alleging it defrauded students. A spokeswoman for Mr. Trump's presidential campaign said the donation was made in error and the matter has been resolved.
