Growing wealth among women has helped build philanthropic organizations such as Women Moving Millions and the Women Donors Network, which mobilize women with histories of giving.
Insiders and experts say that as well as being more collective in nature than traditional philanthropy, women's giving has been influential in the rapid growth of cellphone donations is marked by a less restrictive approach to soliciting grant proposals and awarding funds.
"We really believe the solution lies with the people on the ground. We don't think we have all the answers," said Jacquelyn Zehner, chief executive of Women Moving Millions.
