Yale University announced an anonymous $50 million donation Tuesday to upgrade its Hall of Graduate Studies and make it a campus hub for the humanities, reports the New Haven Register.
About $30 million of the gift will be used for physical rehabilitation of the circa-1930s building, said Amy Hungerford, director of Yale’s Division of Humanities and chairwoman for a planning committee on remaking the hall. A number of humanities departments will join five already housed in 14-story tower, which was renamed for Yale investment chief David Swensen following a $25 million gift in his honor last year. Graduate-student housing at the tower will be moved into a planned new residence hall.
