American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee

David Schizer will take over as chief executive of the international aid charity on January 1.

Mr. Schizer is a former dean of the Columbia Law School, which he led for 10 years. During his tenure the school mounted a $353 million capital campaign, doubling its traditional fundraising. He co-directs the universtiy’s Center for Israeli Legal Studies and is an active member of New York’s Jewish community, serving on the board of 92nd Street Y and as president of America’s Voices in Israel.

The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee received more than $260 million in private support in 2014 and ranked at No. 92 on The Chronicle of Philanthropy’s most recent Philanthropy 400 list of America’s largest charities.

The Johns Hopkins Hospital

Redonda Miller, senior vice president for medical affairs for the Johns Hopkins Health System and vice president for medical affairs for the Johns Hopkins Hospital, was named the hospital’s 11th president. She will be the first woman to hold the position in the institution’s 127-year history.

Ms. Miller will take office on July 1, replacing Ronald Peterson, who has led the hospital for 19 years.

American Student Assistance

John Zurick, executive vice president and president of the nonprofit’s consumer literacy program, was promoted to chief executive. Current President Paul Combe, who has led the organization for 20 years, is retiring.

Buhl Foundation

Diana Bucco, vice president, was promoted to president.

College Art Association

Hunter O’Hanian, director of the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art, will take over as executive director.

Milwaukee Art Museum

Marcelle Polednik, director and chief curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville, was appointed director.

Stratford Hall

John Bacon, senior vice president for external affairs at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, was named president.

United Way of Essex and West Hudson County

Catherine Wilson, interim chief executive, was appointed chief executive.

Urban Strategies Council

David Harris, an independent consultant and former vice president for grants and initiatives at the Iowa West Foundation, was appointed chief executive. He succeeds Junious Williams, who led the council for 18 years.

Other notable appointments:

Llewellyn Crain, director of development at the Kansas City Symphony, was appointed director of development at the Old Globe theater in San Diego.

Denise Nelson, director of development at the Eagle Academy Foundation, was appointed chief development and communications officer at the Federation of Protestant Welfare Agencies.

Matthew Rizzo, associate vice president for development at Brown University, was named vice president for institutional advancement at Bennington College.

Christine Squires, former chief operating officer at Physicians for Human Rights, was named senior vice president and chief development officer at AmeriCares.

Anders Yang, assistant dean of external relations and advancement at the Paul Merage School of Business at the University of California at Irvine, will be chief development officer at the Natural Resources Defense Council.

Legacies:

Ernest Michel, former executive vice president at the United Jewish Appeal who oversaw the merger that led to the creation of UJA-Federation of New York, died on May 7 in New York City. He was 92.

Michael Ratner, president emeritus of the Center for Constitutional Rights, died on May 11 in New York City. He was 72.
