Center for Community Change Elevates New President; Education Leader Departs Chan Zuckerberg

Dorian Warren has been tapped as president of this social-justice organization in Washington, effective November 7. He has worked at the charity for two years as a vice president, as well as president of Center for Community Change Action, its 501(c)4 arm.

Chan Zuckerberg Initiative

Jim Shelton, head of education since the grant maker’s creation in 2016, plans to step down on August 31. April Chou, vice president on the education team, will serve as interim head of education. LIFT

Kirsten Lodal, CEO and co-founder of the social-service group in Washington, will step down from her leadership post. She has served in that role since creating the anti-poverty charity in 1998. A national search is underway for her successor to take over in January.

Lucile Packard Foundation for Children’s Health

Cynthia Brandt-Stover, campaign director at the Smithsonian Institution, will become president and CEO on September 4.

More New CEOs

Kathleen Cooney Clarke has become executive director of Culture for One, a New York charity that brings arts education to children in foster care. Previously she was managing director at Jeffrey Sobel Consulting. She succeeds Linn Tanzman, who founded the group and will continue to serve on its Board of Directors.

Pietro Ferrari, president of Santimento, has been named executive director of Friends of the Children’s chapter in Portland, Ore.

Chris Gaines, superintendent of the Mehlville School District, in St. Louis, was named president of the American Association of School Administrators, which represents superintendents.

Pascale Fournier, a professor of rights and freedoms, comparative family law, and critical approaches to law at the University of Ottawa, has been named president and CEO of the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation. She succeeds Morris Rosenberg, who has led the Montreal foundation since 2014. The grant maker was established in honor of the former prime minister of Canada who was also the father of the current prime minister, Justin Trudeau.

Jed Levine, executive vice president at CaringKind, has been promoted to president and CEO of this group, which provides Alzheimer’s and other dementia care in New York. He succeeds Lou-Ellen Barkan, who has retired after 14 years.

Antonio Martinez Jr., director of development at the Chicago Community Trust, has been appointed president and CEO of the Oak Park-River Forest Community Foundation.

Matthew Shank, president emeritus of Marymount University, has been named interim president and CEO of the World Affairs Council-Washington, D.C.

U.S. Trust/Bank of America Philanthropic Solutions Group

The banking group has hired two leaders to work with nonprofit groups and philanthropists.

Dianne Chipps Bailey has been appointed a national practice executive for nonprofit consulting. Previously she led the nonprofit organizations and foundations practice group at the law firm of Robinson Bradshaw, in Charlotte, N.C.

Crissie Fortmeyer, executive director of the endowments and foundations group at JP Morgan, has been named a senior institutional sales director for nonprofit groups in the South and Midwest.

Commonfund

This investment manager of $25 billion worth of assets for foundations, colleges, and other tax-exempt groups has named two new senior leaders.

Cathleen Rittereiser has been named executive director, reporting to the group’s new CEO, Mark Anson. Previously she was the founder and CEO of Uncorrelated LLC.

George Suttles, a program officer at the John A. Hartford Foundation, will join in August as managing director.

Max M. and Marjorie S. Fisher Foundation

The Southfield, Mich., foundation has announced three staff changes.

Meredith Freeman was promoted from senior program partner to director of alignment and impact investing.

Jennifer Ludwig, a consultant for membership and fundraising at the International Initiative for Impact Evaluation, has been hired as program partner, overseeing its Jewish grants portfolio.

Cynthia Rowell was promoted from director of programs to director of learning and impact.

Other Notable Appointments

Sepi Aghdaee, who recently completed a two-year fellowship for emerging leaders in philanthropy at the San Francisco Foundation, has become a program officer at the Evelyn and Walter Haas, Jr. Fund. Her focus will be on the foundation’s grant making in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Rob Beck, chief operating officer of the U.S Retail Bank at Citibank, has joined the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society as chief operating officer.

Doug Corbin, senior director of planned giving at the CHOC Children’s Foundation, has been promoted to vice president and chief development officer at the fundraising arm of Children’s Hospital of Orange County.

Kristen Miller has become chief development officer of the Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore. Previously she was the director of development at the Visiting Nurse Association of Central Jersey Foundation.

Anne-Imelda Radice, executive director of the American Folk Art Museum, has been appointed as the new director of the division of public programs at the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Theresa Travis has joined Widener University as its vice president for university advancement. Previously she was senior associate vice president for development and alumni relations at Saint Joseph’s University.

Departures

Judy Vredenburgh, president and CEO of Girls Incorporated, intends to retire next April after nine years at the helm.

Legacies

Fenton William Schweke II, a co-founder and the first employee of the Corporation for Enterprise Development, died on July 3 from Parkinson’s disease. Last year, the charity became known as Prosperity Now.
