Laura Longman, chief financial officer and chief operating officer, has stepped up as acting president and CEO of the $240 million community fund.
She succeeds Jeffrey Vega, who died on January 28 from cancer. He was 56.

Atif Bostic, president and CEO of Uplift Solutions, is now executive director of the Aperion Impact Fund, a new grant maker to address global health inequities. It was established by the global healthcare fintech company MAPay.
Lisa Christy has been promoted from chief external affairs officer to executive director of the Portland Japanese Garden. She has worked there since 2014.
Moses Cook, former director of operations and development at the D.C. Justice Lab, will now serve as president of FAMM, a charity that was previously known as Families Against Mandatory Minimums. He follows Roxana Rincones, who has been its interim leader since Kevin Ring’s departure in June.
Kristin Dionne has been promoted from interim executive director to CEO of Green Chimneys, an education and human-services nonprofit in Putnam County, N.Y. She has worked there since 2007, and previously was managing director of the Friends of Green Chimneys. Dionne succeeds Edward Placke, who served as executive director from 2017 until his retirement in June.
Adjoa Jones de Almeida, deputy director for learning and social impact at the Brooklyn Museum, will be the first executive director of the Forman Arts Initiative.
Katrina Moline was promoted from chief operations and finance officer to executive director of Hand to Hold, a national nonprofit group that provides mental-health support for parents of children who have been hospitalized in neonatal intensive care units. She will serve alongside Kelli Kelley, the group’s founder and CEO, until Kelley’s planned retirement at the end of 2025.
Ingrid Whitley, assistant vice president at CCS Fundraising, is the new president and CEO of the Park City Education Foundation.
Kresge Foundation
The $4 billion grant maker in Detroit has announced several promotions among its program staff.
Erica Browne has been promoted from program officer to senior program officer for health.
Alejandra Hernandez, a fellow at the foundation since 2021, will now serve as associate program officer for the environment.
Michelle Johnson, senior program officer for its arts and culture program, is now senior program officer for its Detroit program.
Christopher LeFlore, special assistant to the president, has become associate program officer for its Detroit program.
Katharine McLaughlin was promoted to senior communications officer. She has worked there since 2019, most recently as a communications officer.
Kevin Washington has been promoted to associate program officer for its American Cities program. He has been a fellow at the foundation since 2021.

The $488 million foundation in Michigan has named four new executives.
Michael Murphy, vice president of communications, is now chief of staff.
Carla Thompson Payton has been promoted from vice president for program strategy to chief strategist and impact officer.
Alandra Washington was promoted to chief transformation and organizational effectiveness officer. She has worked there since 2002, and was most recently vice president for transformation and organizational effectiveness.
Kahlil Williams will now serve as general counsel and corporate secretary. Most recently he was a partner at Ballard Spahr LLP in Philadelphia where he led the firm’s Black Lawyers Group and its Environmental, Social, and Governance) Working Group, and co-led its Racial Justice and Equality Initiative.

Erik Augustson, a population-health consultant, has been appointed vice president of programs at the Foundation for a Smoke-Free World. Until last year he was senior director of global scientific affairs at the electronic-cigarette company JUUL Labs.
Sara Elbohy, an urban planner with the city of Detroit’s Planning and Development department, is joining the Hudson-Webber Foundation as a program officer.
Sarah Fletcher, chief financial and administrative officer at the Trinity Park Conservancy, has been named chief financial officer at the Southwestern Medical Foundation. She succeeds Kay Schlankey, its departing senior vice president and chief financial officer.
Kayla Hunter, program coordinator for the Community Food Bank of New Jersey, has joined the Surdna Foundation as program associate for its Sustainable Environments team.
Uche Ralph-Opara, a medical doctor and deputy chief health officer at Project HOPE, has been promoted to chief health officer at the humanitarian-aid group.
Betsy Reid has been promoted from senior communications director to chief strategy officer at PEAK Grantmaking.
Jessica Welt, former CEO and clinical director of the Child Guidance Center of Southern Connecticut, has been named vice president of development at the Moses/Weitzman Health System.
Legacies
Leonard Smith, a lawyer who spent much of his career guiding nonprofits and foundations in Michigan, died on January 21 at the age of 89. He began working as an attorney at the Skillman Foundation in 1968 before leaving his law practice at Clark Hill to serve as the foundation’s president and chairman from 1983 until 1999. He then became president and later chief investment officer at the Ethel and James Flinn Foundation, where he served on its Board of Trustees until his death.
Alfred (Ted) Taylor, the first full-time president and former board chair of the Kresge Foundation, died on January 16 at age 93. He joined the foundation in 1972 as vice president for administration, and became its president in 1978. Taylor also helped guide the creation of Independent Sector.
