Donna Shalala to Head Clinton Foundation

March 9, 2015

Donna Shalala, a former Secretary of Health and Human Services under President Bill Clinton, has been selected to lead the Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation, the Wall Street Journal reports. Ms. Shalala has served as president of the University of Miami for 14 years. Last September she announced her resignation at the end of the 2015 academic year.

Ms. Shalala, 74, and Ms. Clinton are longtime friends, and served together on the board of the Children’s Defense Fund for 15 years.

This announcement comes at a time when foundation has been under scrutiny for accepting millions of dollars in donations from foreign governments and for tensions among its staff. The Foundation’s chief executive, Eric Braverman, left in January after 18 months on the job. Maura Pally, a longtime aide to Ms. Clinton, ran the foundation while it searched for a permanent replacement.
