Billionaire philanthropist Charles Feeney has donated $100-million to University of California, San Francisco’s, new hospital, reports the San Francisco Chronicle. The gift, announced Wednesday, will primarily support research and treatment related to neuroscience and aging at the UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay, which opened Feb. 1.
Mr. Feeney, the co-founder of a company that operates duty-free shops around the world, has now given $394-million to the university system, including past gifts of $125-million and $20-million to the Mission Bay hospital project. With Wednesday’s gift he passed entertainment mogul David Geffen, who has contributed $310-million to medical and arts programs and facilities at the University of California, Los Angeles.
