Former Corporate Philanthropy Player Will Lead the Steve Fund

Carrie Rebora Barratt, who has been a deputy director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, has been named president and CEO of the New York Botanical Garden.

Anuja Khemka, a nonprofit consultant and senior strategy and programs adviser at this charity, which is dedicated to improving the mental well-being of minority students, has been elevated to executive director. She is also the former vice president at the JPMorgan Chase Global Philanthropy group.

Andrew W. Mellon Foundation

Elizabeth Alexander, a poet and scholar, has been selected to lead the $6.3 billion grant maker, effective next month. Ms. Alexander will be the foundation’s first black woman president. She succeeds Earl Lewis, who led the grant maker for five years.

Oxfam Great Britain

Penny Lawrence, deputy chief executive and interim international-programs director at the humanitarian organization’s branch in England, has resigned in the wake of a prostitution scandal centering on its aid workers in Chad and Haiti. The charity has not yet named a successor.

More New Leaders

The Rev. Bill Golderer has been named president and chief executive officer of the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey. He was previously the pastor at Arch Street Presbyterian Church and founder of Broad Street Ministry.

Carrie Rebora Barratt will be the next president and CEO of the New York Botanical Garden, effective July 1. Previously, she was at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She will succeed Gregory Long, who announced last spring his plans to retire after 29 years at the helm.

Jeremy Jackson, the associate director of camp operations at Caraway Conference Center and Camp, has joined the Christian Camp and Conference Association as director of operations and member services.

Kwame Johnson has joined Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta as its new CEO. He was previously the executive director of the greater Atlanta region for PowerMyLearning. Mr. Johnson succeeds Janice McKenzie-Crayton, who has retired after more than 25 years as CEO.

Nico Karagosian, vice president of advancement and executive director at the University of Cincinnati Foundation, has been named president and CEO of the Ohio University Foundation. He will also serve as the university’s vice president for advancement.

Alesia Soltanpanah has been named U.S. executive director of World Animal Protection. Previously, she was executive director of the Victims Information Bureau of Suffolk, on Long Island.

Cecily King has become the executive director of the Live6 Alliance, an economic-development charity co-founded by University of Detroit Mercy and the Kresge Foundation. Ms. King previously served as development director for the City of Detroit’s Housing & Revitalization Department.

Betsy Kinsley, vice president for development and stewardship at the Coastal Community Foundation, was named CEO of the Downtown San Diego Partnership.

Robert Meya, direct of external affairs of the Santa Fe Opera, has been promoted to general director, effective October 1.

Beth Onofry, deputy director of academic programs and student support at the Teak Fellowship, has been named executive director of Breakthrough New York.

Lori Willis, major gifts officer at the Cancer Foundation of Santa Barbara, has been promoted to executive director.

World Resources Institute

The charity’s Ross Center for Sustainable Cities has hired two new directors:

Jessica Seddon, founder of Okapi, a social-innovation strategy group in India, has become director of integrated urban strategy.

Emma Stewart, founder of the sustainability-solutions division at Autodesk, is the new director of urban efficiency and climate.

Other Notable Appointments

Shira Hodges, program director for Geneva Global, has become director of leadership and advancement at the Philanthropy Network Greater Philadelphia.

Melissa Levesque, director of development at the Coastal Community Foundation, has been promoted to vice president of development and stewardship.

Howard Reddy, interim vice president for university advancement at the University of West Florida and president of its foundation, has been appointed permanently to both roles. He was previously assistant vice president for university advancement and director of the office of community engagement.

Departures

Manizha Naderi, executive director of Women for Afghan Women, will step down by the end of the year after 17 years leading the human-rights organization.

Legacies

Robert McCormick Adams, who led the Smithsonian Institution from 1984 until 1994, died on January 27. He was 91. Under his guidance, the cultural institution opened the National Postal Museum, the National Museum of African Art, and the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery.
