San Francisco Foundation
The community foundation awarded about $5.27 million in the first round of grants reflecting its new focus on racial and economic equity and its new grant-making areas of people, place, and power.
Recipients include California Calls, an alliance that received $450,000 to further its work helping African Americans participate in civic life; the Non-Profit Housing Association of Northern California, which got $235,000 to help low-income families find housing; and Californians for Safety and Justice, which received $50,000 for its work ensuring people benefit from Proposition 47, a state law that reduces some drug-possession felonies to misdemeanors.
