The Wonderland Trail in Mount Rainer National Park is one of two Washington state mountain routes being restored with the help of $1 million from the REI Foundation.

Here are notable new grants compiled by The Chronicle:

San Francisco Foundation

The community foundation awarded about $5.27 million in the first round of grants reflecting its new focus on racial and economic equity and its new grant-making areas of people, place, and power.

Recipients include California Calls, an alliance that received $450,000 to further its work helping African Americans participate in civic life; the Non-Profit Housing Association of Northern California, which got $235,000 to help low-income families find housing; and Californians for Safety and Justice, which received $50,000 for its work ensuring people benefit from Proposition 47, a state law that reduces some drug-possession felonies to misdemeanors.
