Notable new grants and deadlines compiled by The Chronicle:
Duke Endowment
The foundation awarded $15.3 million to Health Sciences South Carolina to create a health research collaborative with North Carolina health systems and medical schools including the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Duke University, and Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
Using the nonprofit’s health-information technology, the two states will focus research on diabetes, obesity, and stroke. The new grant brings the Duke Endowment’s total support of the nonprofit to more than $47.5 million.
Pershing Square Foundation
The grant maker awarded $10 million to the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in support of research and education programs in the life sciences.
The grant creates an endowment from which the laboratory will receive an annual income of 5 percent. In 2040, the appreciated principal will be released to the laboratory as an unrestricted endowment.
Andrew W. Mellon Foundation
The foundation awarded $2.79 million to a three-year pilot fellowship program to support threatened artists, placing them at host universities and arts centers in countries where they can continue their work safely. The program is a partnership with the Institute of International Education.
Raytheon
The defense-technology company committed $5 million to Student Veterans of America to provide resources, support, and advocacy to veterans pursuing higher education. The grant is part of the company’s five-year, $10-million commitment to military veterans, personnel, and families.
Google
The technology company awarded more than $1 million to two health-technology companies.
A $600,000 grant was awarded to the Enable Community Foundation to support the design, distribution, and delivery of open-source 3D-printed upper-limb prosthetics.
A $500,000 grant was awarded to World Wide Hearing to develop and test a low-cost tool kit for hearing loss using smartphone technology that’s widely available in the developing world.
Hamon Charitable Foundation
The foundation awarded $1.3 million to the Dallas Museum of Art supporting the renovation of the museum’s north entrance and improving overall visitor experience. A wing of the museum is already named in honor of the late Jake Hamon, a Dallas oilman and civic leader.
Two museum benefactors, Jennifer and John Eagle, pledged $3 million for the project. The entrance will be named for them.
NBCUniversal Foundation
The foundation will award a total of $1.2 million to local nonprofits in the 10 areas served by the NBCUniversal-owned television stations: Chicago, Connecticut, Dallas-Fort Worth, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, San Diego, the San Francisco Bay Area, South Florida, and Washington, D.C.
Nonprofits with programming in civic engagement, education, environment, jobs and economic empowerment, media arts, and technology can apply through July 3.

Sy Syms Foundation
The foundation awarded $75,000 to the International Pemphigus & Pemphigoid Foundation for a multiyear effort to reduce diagnostic delays for patients with rare autoimmune diseases.
Max M. & Marjorie S. Fisher Foundation
The foundation awarded a total of more than $2 million in grants to Detroit organizations working in blight removal, arts programs, basic needs, and more.
Recipients include the Detroit Land Bank Authority, which will receive $500,000 to provide support in demolishing vacant and unstable structures, and the Sphinx Organization, which will receive $450,000 over two years for a program providing free violin instruction and summer programs for children.
