Grants Roundup: Marin Fund Donates $32 Million Photo Trove, Cleveland Foundation Backs Education Programs

Here are notable new grant awards compiled by The Chronicle:

Marin Community Foundation

An archive of photographs depicting California life in the mid-20th century, valued at $32 million, to the University of California at Santa Cruz.

Cleveland Foundation

$18 million to multiple organizations, including the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, Teach for America, and Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland.

Joyce Foundation

$10 million to multiple nonprofits whose work relates to education, employment, the environment, and prevention of gun violence. Recipients include the Migration Policy Institute, the Illinois Environmental Council Education Fund, and the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence.

Cleveland Foundation

John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation

$6.6 million to organizations in Chicago for programs to foster economic development in low-income neighborhoods, prevent violence, promote police reform, and support the arts. Recipients include the YMCA of Metro Chicago, the Digital Youth Network, and the Metropolitan Planning Council.

The foundation also awarded $5 million to the International Documentary Association to support the production of nonfiction films.

Vivian G. Prins Foundation

$1.15 million to the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York to create a fellowship program for scholars, artists, and writers emigrating to the United States.

Henry Luce Foundation

$1 million to the Vanderbilt University Divinity School to promote the study of racial justice.

Ford Foundation

$750,000 over three years to RespectAbility to provide paid fellowships for young people with disabilities who participate in the nonprofit’s leadership training program.

New grant opportunities:

The Wayne D. Kuni and Joan E. Kuni Foundation created a $50-million fund to support medical research and serve developmentally disabled adults.
