Grants Roundup: UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital Gets $50 Million for Expansion

Here are notable new grant awards compiled by The Chronicle:

Google.org

The tech giant’s philanthropic arm will give $50 million over two years to nonprofits building technology-based education programs aimed at closing education gaps in developing countries. The first grantees include the Foundation for Learning Equality and the Million Sparks Foundation.

Google.org plans to award grants to education nonprofits in 20 countries by the end of the year.

Mattel Children’s Foundation

$50 million to the UCLA Health System to expand UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital and help create a pediatric-care center and research center.

$8 million to George Washington University for an engineering-scholars program that provides students with financial aid and professional training.

Walmart Foundation

$3 million to the Texas Hunger Initiative at Baylor University to build Hunger Free Coalitions across the state, continue child-nutrition programs, and conduct research and expand projects aimed at finding local, long-term solutions to hunger and poverty.

Edmond J. Safra Foundation

$1 million to the National Gallery of Art to support the Edmond J. Safra Visiting Professorship at the Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts.

Craig Newmark Foundation

$100,000 to the Anti-Defamation League to shore up the work of its Incident Response Center, which tracks, reports, and responds to hate-related incidents online and on the ground.
