In this video interview from our September Philanthropy NEXT conference, Catherine Briggs, creator of the Centennial Circle at Dartmouth College, discusses how women are driven to donate by a sense of community.
“Women are more relational, and they’re not hierarchical,” she says. “They tend to want to be part of a community.”
The Centennial Circle addresses the gender giving gap by encouraging alumnae to donate $100,000 or more to the institution. The gifts provide scholarships to students who otherwise could not afford to attend the Ivy League college. Ms. Briggs says many of the women had given only relatively small sums before.
