In Interview, Eric Trump Unable to Name Personal Gifts by His Father

July 13, 2016

Donald Trump’s documented giving to his son’s Eric Trump Foundation amounts to $150,000 from the presumptive Republican presidential nominee’s own foundation and free rounds of golf at Trump-owned courses, according to The Washington Post.

The newspaper, which has been scrutinizing the presumptive Republican presidential nominee’s philanthropic claims, reported the findings after seeking additional information from Eric Trump on his assertion last week that his charity has received “hundreds of thousands of dollars” in personal gifts from his father.

In follow-up responses Monday, the younger Mr. Trump cited donations from the Donald J. Trump Foundation. Tax filings from the foundation list gifts of $50,000 in 2008 and $100,000 in 2010 to Eric Trump’s fund, which supports children’s cancer research and treatment. Donald Trump has not made a gift to his own foundation since 2008, according to tax records; it relies on other donors.

Eric Trump also cited “in-kind” gifts from his father, particularly free rounds of golf for tournaments benefiting the Eric Trump Foundation. He was unable to identify any donations from Donald Trump’s own fortune, telling the Post in an e-mail, “I’m sure there have been but without going back through 10 years, I wouldn’t remember check for check off the top of my head.”
