Joyce Foundation
Whitney Smith will return to the $1.3 billion foundation as its executive vice president and chief strategy officer in June. She previously worked at the foundation from 2005 until 2015 and more recently was head of regional philanthropy for North America at JPMorgan Chase & Co.
Smith will replace Darren Reisberg, who has been named president of Hartwick College.
Accion
Rahil Rangwala has been appointed co-managing partner of Accion Venture Lab, serving alongside Amee Parbhoo.
Rangwala was previously a director at the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation, where he led its India office.
Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo
Betsy Constantine, executive vice president, has been promoted to president and CEO of the $850 million foundation.
She follows Clotilde Perez-Bode Dedecker, who is retiring after 15 years at its helm.
Exponent Philanthropy
Paul Daugherty has been tapped as CEO.
For the past 12 years, he has led Philanthropy West Virginia as president and CEO.

Rodney Foxworth, CEO of Common Future, will continue as CEO as his group merges with Uncharted, another charity that addresses economic inequality. Banks Benitez, Uncharted’s CEO, is departing.
Paul Oxholm, principal of Sharpoint Partners, will now serve as interim director and CEO of the Reading Public Museum.
John Graydon Smith, director and CEO of the Reading Public Museum, has been named president and CEO of the Museum of Science and Industry.
Michelle Yun Mapplethorpe will become executive director of the Katonah Museum of Art in August. She is currently vice president for global artistic programs at the Asia Society and director of the Asia Society Museum.
Joel Zarrow, CEO of the Children’s Literacy Initiative, has been hired as CEO of the Park City Community Foundation. He succeeds Joelle Kanshepolsky, who has served as the $24 million community fund’s interim CEO since the retirement of Katie Wright in July 2021.

This charity, which was established last year with a commitment of over $300 million from more than 20 major funders, has filled five top positions.
Alexander Ege, a director at the strategic consulting firm BIRK Consulting, has joined as energy program director.
Alfonso Galarce, climate finance officer for the Chilean Ministry of the Environment, is now chief administrative and financial officer.
Hayden Montgomery is now agriculture program director. Previously, he was the special representative of the Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases.
Patty Rhee, head of government and legislative affairs at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, has been hired as chief partnerships officer.
Carolina Urmenta will serve as circular economy program director. Most recently she was head of the climate-change division at the Ministry of the Environment of Chile.
Other Notable Appointments
Gelasia Croom, director of strategic communications at Children’s Home and Aid Society of Illinois, has joined Prevent Child Abuse America as its chief communications officer.
Dondi Cupp, senior vice president and chief development officer at Oregon Health and Science University Foundation, will become senior vice president and chief development officer at the Seattle Children’s Hospital next month. There he will oversee the Seattle Children’s Foundation and Guild Association. He follows Doug Picha, who retired as president of the foundation earlier this year.
Leonie Kruizenga, a fundraising consultant in New York and Amsterdam, is now chief advancement officer at the Young People’s Chorus of New York City.
Darlene Larsen has joined Children’s Rights as chief development officer. Most recently, she served as executive director of the Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Health System Foundation.
Nick McLain, communications manager at the Indiana Library Federation, is now communications manager at the Indiana Philanthropy Alliance. In addition, JoAnna Ness has joined the group as director of community foundation programs. Most recently she was communications director at the Steuben County Community Foundation.
Kara Olidge, executive director of the Amistad Research Center at Tulane University, will now be associate director for collections and discovery at the Getty Research Institute. Also, Khristaan Villela has been hired as associate director for dissemination and external affairs. Most recently he was executive director of the Museum of International Folk Art and the chair of arts and science at the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs.
Isaac Thweatt has been hired as chief advancement officer at the New York Botanical Garden. He was previously associate dean of the School of the Arts at Emerson College.
Emily Walsh, a director at BrightVine, has been appointed chief operating officer at the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona.
Departures
Louis DeGennaro intends to retire as president and CEO of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in June 2023 after 18 years there.
Susan Fitzpatrick, president and CEO of the James S. McDonnell Foundation since 2015, has retired.
Kenneth Roth, executive director of Human Rights Watch since 1993, plans to step down at the end of August. He joined the group in 1987 as deputy director.
