Nicole George-Middleton, senior vice president of membership at the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers, has been promoted to executive director of its foundation.

Sarah Calderon, managing director of ArtPlace America, will be the first executive director of Creatives Rebuild New York, the foundation’s three-year, $125 million program to provide direct support to artists and invigorate New York State’s creative economy.
Smithsonian Institution
Ngaire Blankenberg has been named director of the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of African Art. She is a consultant who has advised museums and other clients on strategies for decolonization.

Dia Bryant, deputy director and chief partnership officer at Education Trust–New York, has been promoted to executive director. In addition, Christopher Nellum will now serve as executive director of the Education Trust–West, based in California. He was previously its deputy director of research and policy.
Brandy Carter, assistant executive director of adult education and programs at South Baltimore Learning Center, has been appointed executive director of the BioTechnical Institute of Maryland.
Shirley Collado, president of Ithaca College, will be the next president and CEO of College Track.
Sarah Fossen, director of marketing and experience at JLL/Rosedale Center, has been tapped as executive director of Minnesota Citizens for the Arts. She replaces Sheila Smith, who stepped down in February after 25 years of leading the arts group.
Anastacia (Stacy) Knapper, executive vice president and general counsel at the Indiana University Foundation, will be the first CEO of the University at Buffalo Foundation.
Sean Malone, interim executive director of Journalism Funding Partners, has been tapped as the George Family Foundation’s next president, effective August 23. He will overlap with Gayle Ober, who has led the $70 million foundation since 2010 and plans to retire at the end of the year.
Sharon McLennon-Wier, director of disability services at Berkeley College, has been appointed executive director of the Center for Independence of the Disabled, New York. She succeeds Susan Dooha, who is retiring after leading the group for 19 years.
Molly Murray, a field representative at the American Medical Association, has been tapped as president and CEO of the American Autoimmune Related Diseases Association.
Erika Pulley-Hayes will next serve as general manager of WAMU, the NPR news station in Washington, beginning August 30. She currently is president and CEO of Community Communications, an NPR affiliate in Orlando, Fla.
Michael Schmidt, director of the American Jewish Committee’s regional office in New York, is now CEO and executive director of the Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey. He follows Marsha Atkind, who has retired after 13 years there.
Rick Schneider will be the next president and CEO of Maine Public, the state’s public media network. Previously he was senior vice president for advancement at the National Center for Family Philanthropy.
Marion Smith, founding president of the Common Sense Society, is returning to the group as president and CEO. Most recently he was executive director of the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation.
Christy Ward, vice president at Hoag Hospital Foundation, has been appointed president of Saddleback Medical Center Foundation.
Paul Wright has been promoted from deputy executive director to executive director of the National Veterans Legal Services Program. He succeeds its co-founder Bart Stichman, who has led the organization since its beginning in 1981 and will remain special counsel.

Jennifer Broome has been tapped as vice president of philanthropy. Most recently she was vice president of philanthropy at American Forests.
Alejandra Montoya-Boyer, associate program director for the Resilient Economies and Communities team at the National Association of Counties, has been hired as director of policy.
Kristen Wesloh has joined the organization as director of institutional investment. She was previously the director of institutional giving for Minnesota Public Radio/American Public Media.

Barbara (Bobbi) Bosch has been promoted from vice president for marketing and development to senior vice president for marketing and development at Christel House International.
Paul Elstone is joining Central Washington University as vice president for university advancement and executive director of the CWU Foundation. Most recently he was senior associate vice president for development at the University of Oregon.
Pamela Giller, vice president of growth and development for Communities in Schools, has been named vice president of development at the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights and its sister organization, the Leadership Conference Education Fund. In addition, Andrew Ansel was promoted from director of institutional giving to managing director of development.
Mary Ann Schwartz Graffeo, senior associate dean of advancement at the University of Southern California’s Viterbi School of Engineering, will join Colorado College as vice president for advancement in August.
Jennifer Ingraham, assistant vice president at the University of Missouri at Kansas City Foundation, is now vice president of philanthropy and alumni relations at Kansas City University.
Marissa Reibstein has been hired as chief development officer at Grounds for Sculpture. Most recently she was director of development, board engagement, and special events at the 92nd Street Y.
Heather Riddle, vice president of institutional advancement and alumni relations at Augsburg University, has joined American Public Media Group as senior vice president and chief development officer. She succeeds Randi Yoder, who retired this summer after 10 years there.
Amani Roland, head of philanthropy in North America for the University of Edinburgh, has been appointed chief advancement officer at the Television Academy Foundation.
Rachelle Sanders, vice president and chief development officer at Montefiore Health System and Albert Einstein College of Medicine, has been named chief development officer at the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
Brian Smith has been promoted from chief marketing officer to chief advancement officer at the Joffrey Ballet of Chicago.

Alejandro Okret, chief global officer at Moishe House, will serve as the executive director of international programs at the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee.
Aliza Shvarts, an artist and co-founder of the Arts Research Collective, is joining Creative Capital as its next director of artist initiatives.
Sylvia White, deputy executive director at Harlem Hospital Center, has joined Bridge Philanthropic Consulting as executive vice president and chief operating officer.
Erika Williams, development manager at the Oceanside Museum of Art, will now serve as vice president of client development at RSF Social Finance.

Departures
Quanice Floyd has stepped down as executive director of Arts Administrators of Color.
Robert Gioia, president of the John R. Oishei Foundation since 2007, will retire at the end of the year.
Steve Moore plans to retire as CEO of the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust in 2022. He has led the $2.1 billion foundation for 15 years.
David Woodlock, president and CEO of the Institute for Community Living since 2013, is retiring.
Legacy
Joe Carroll, a Catholic priest who led the St. Vincent de Paul Center in San Diego for 30 years, died on July 11. He was 80. The homelessness group was renamed Father Joe’s Villages in 2015 in his honor.
