Gustavo Dudamel will remain the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s music director at least until the organization’s centenary in 2019, reports the Los Angeles Times.
The philharmonic extended its contract with the charismatic Venezuelan, popularly known as “the dude,” through the 2018-19 season
Mr. Dudamel’s original, five-year deal was to run out in 2014. Debora Borda, president of the Philharmonic, said his chemistry with musicians and the “upward arc” of recent performances persuaded the orchestra’s board to extend the contract and dispel rumors that other ensembles were courting the 30-year-old conductor.
