Here are notable new grant awards compiled by the Chronicle:
Lilly Endowment
$600 million to strengthen public and private schools in Indiana’s Marion County, improve students’ academic achievement, and set young people up for success after high school.
The commitment includes up to $450 million for the Marion County K-12 Public Schools Initiative, and up to $150 million for the Marion County K-12 Private Schools Initiative. More than 300 public, private, and charter schools across 80 school districts and education networks are eligible to apply for the grants.
The Lilly Endowment also gave $100 million to the National Park Foundation toward its $1 billion fundraising campaign. The grant will bolster its programs to create job opportunities in environmental stewardship, protect at-risk wildlife and ecosystems in America’s national parks, improve accessibility for park visitors, and broaden narratives about the history of the parks.

Siegel Family Endowment
$10.4 million to 28 organizations to expand access to technology, work-force development for teachers, computer and data-science education, and other academic tools that benefit students in kindergarten through 12th grade.
Cadence Giving Foundation
$10 million commitment to Fem.AI, its new program to increase equity in job opportunities for women working in artificial intelligence and the technology sector.
Cadence Design Systems has additionally pledged $10 million in product donations to support the effort.
JPMorganChase
$7 million commitment to Build Commonwealth to establish Benefits for the Future, a three-year program that aims to help employees access their workplace benefits, improve their financial health, and build wealth for workers with low to moderate incomes.
PetSmart Charities
$6 million to the University of California at Davis to endow a chair at its School of Veterinary Medicine.
Kelvin and Eleanor Smith Foundation
$5 million to the Cleveland Orchestra to support the Kelvin Smith Family Chair, which pays the salary and benefits of the orchestra’s music director.
Northwestern Mutual Foundation
$3.9 million pledge to approximately 50 schools and nonprofit groups in Milwaukee that are working to improve outcomes for students in academics, mental health, and family engagement from preschool through high school.
Texas Instruments Foundation
$2 million over four years to the Young Women’s Steam Academy to renovate the Dallas all-girls school’s science lab, hire a college-success adviser, help its students visit college campuses in Texas, and hire more teachers.
CareQuest Institute for Oral Health
$1.25 million to improve access to oral health care for children in need through clinics based in schools in California, Colorado, Illinois, Florida, Louisiana, Maine, Montana, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
Larry and Helen Hoag Foundation
$1 million to the High School Inc. Academies Foundation to enhance high-tech job training for students from marginalized communities in California’s Orange County.
W.M. Keck Foundation
$1 million to the University of Colorado School of Medicine to study cells that produce extremely large amounts of collagen and collagen synthesis’s effects on disease or aging.
New Grant Opportunity
Amazon is accepting proposals for grants through its Housing Equity Fund to create or preserve low-cost, multifamily housing developments in Nashville, Washington State’s Puget Sound, and the region surrounding Arlington, Va., and Washington, D.C. Nonprofits focused on affordable housing are eligible to apply for grants or low-cost loans to back preservation projects or new construction. Proposals are due October 31.
