The Clinton Foundation paid Sidney Blumenthal, a longtime confidant and adviser to Bill and Hillary Clinton, $10,000 for staff and consulting positions from 2009 until a few months ago, according to Politico.
Mr. Blumenthal’s tenure as a full-time employee of the charity included the period when he sent unsolicited emails to then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton with advice and purported intelligence on Libya.
Citing “multiple sources familiar with the arrangement,” Politico writes that the foundation brought Mr. Blumenthal on in 2009 at the behest of Bill Clinton for a job focused on highlighting Mr. Clinton’s presidential legacy, causing some grumbling within the organization. He was switched to a consulting contract, at the same pay rate but without benefits, in 2013, according to the sources, at a time when the foundation was professionalizing its operations and minimizing the roles of Clinton loyalists.
