Dear Subscriber,
As you get ready for the busy end of the year — whether you’re a fundraiser or a foundation executive — the Chronicle of Philanthropy is standing ready to help. And in the year ahead, we’ll be working hard to ensure you have the knowledge you need to make your organization successful.
With support from the Heinz Endowments and the Hewlett and Mott foundations, we’ve spent much of the past year interviewing and surveying people who work at nonprofits and at foundations to learn how we can do more to help you. We’ve been able to glean some important insights from this research. In particular, we heard that employees feel their organizations aren’t focusing nearly enough on promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion. While the biggest challenge today is luring major gifts, fundraisers say the greatest challenge five years from now will be attracting donations from people of color, women, and others who are growing in wealth and clout.
We used this feedback to shape our offerings in early 2020:
January: We’ll focus on trends in the year ahead and beyond. We’ll pair that with a subscriber-only live discussion on January 28 that will allow you to direct your questions to the Chronicle journalists who have written about pivotal trends, as well as some of the key experts they have interviewed. We hope you’ll use this discussion to guide your decision making and share it with key executives and board members who set the agenda at your organization.
February: As we mark the 20th anniversary of our exclusive ranking of the 50 Americans who give the most, we’ll provide an extensive analysis of trends that you can put to use in cultivating your major donors.
March: You’ll learn what nonprofits can do best to attract financial supporters from diverse backgrounds. We’ll offer you research and tools you’ll need to pave the way for future support from an increasingly multicultural donor pool.
We’ll be unveiling a new website that will make it easier for you to find what you need, and we’ll provide you with valuable new benefits, such as:
- Exclusive access to a free webinar that you can use to obtain training for your whole staff.
- More subscription options so you can pay just for what fits your role, focus, and budget.
Meanwhile, we’ll help you stay on top of all you need to know through our improved newsletters, including Eden Stiffman’s weekly roundup gathering news and insights from your peers about fundraising trends, our subscriber-only Nonprofit Adviser guide to advice and tools, and our monthly Chronicle Insider preview that gives you a behind-the-scenes look at each issue of the magazine.
I hope you’ll let me know what more we can do to help you achieve your important mission. Drop me a line anytime.
Our entire staff wishes you well in these crucial last weeks of 2019.
Onward!

P.S. As you seek ways to keep your staff motivated to do their best work, consider giving them their own subscription to the Chronicle as a year-end gift. That will show that you care about their career progress and help them expand their knowledge and insights about what is happening at foundations and nonprofits nationwide.
