Here are notable new grant awards compiled by the Chronicle:
Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas
$54.5 million to 174 nonprofit organizations and municipalities across 74 counties in South Texas to advance health equity and address the social determinants of health in their communities.
PNC Foundation
$20.2 million to enhance nature-based outdoor play and learning environments through schools and education nonprofit groups.
Of the total, $10 million went to Birmingham Promise to promote postsecondary success for graduates of public schools in Birmingham, Ala. Another $5.2 million was awarded to a collection of organizations through its PNC Grow Up Great grant pool. The final $5 million went through DonorsChoose, an education nonprofit that connects donors with public-school educators, to meet all funding requests related to outdoor play and learning from pre-kindergarten and Head Start teachers in the areas where the bank does business.
Morgan Stanley
$20 million over five years through its Alliance for Children’s Mental Health to build partnerships with the Sesame Workshop and the American Academy of Pediatrics, enhance existing programs and research with other nonprofit groups, and continue its Innovation Awards program.
Kraft Heinz Company Foundation
$15 million over three years to Rise Against Hunger to continue sustainable agriculture projects and add essential vitamins and minerals to millions of rice-soy meals that the charity will distribute globally to mitigate malnutrition and hunger.
Lego Foundation
$6.2 million through its Play for All Accelerator Program to three U.S. organizations that make play-based learning more inclusive for neurodivergent children and their families.
Social Cipher received $1.9 million for its video game-based platform; Kokoro Kids was awarded $2.25 million to help children develop cognitive and emotional skills through play; and $2 million went to Mom’s Belief to provide families with neurodivergent children with individual educational plans and toolkits that encourage physical play.
Dana Foundation
$6 million through its Dana Center Initiative for Neuroscience and Society to create partnerships between academic institutions, neuroscientists, and their surrounding communities to advance research in neuroscience.
The University of California at Los Angeles and the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science are jointly receiving $5 million from the foundation to collaborate on a center in South Los Angeles. Loyola University Chicago will receive $1 million over two years to develop interest in science, technology, engineering, and math among middle and high school students in the Chicago metropolitan area.
Jerome Foundation
$5.5 million to 79 arts organizations in Minnesota and New York City to continue programs and develop new opportunities for early-career artists to present new original work in dance, film, video, literature, music, technology, theater, performance, spoken word, and the visual arts.
Kaiser Permanente
$2 million commitment to Share Our Strength to expand enrollment in Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer.
Summer EBT is a new federal food-assistance program that will provide eligible families with grocery benefits during summer break, when students do not receive subsidized school meals.
LA84 Foundation
$1.7 million to 18 organizations that expand opportunities in sports, play, and exercise for more than 64,000 youths across Southern California.
William A. Brookshire Foundation
$1.6 million to Texas Tech University to establish the Texas Tech School of Law Veterans Clinic and endow a scholarship for students at the university’s Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering.
Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation
$1 million to 20 food banks to enhance their programs that benefit children, including backpack projects, school-based food pantries, and summer programs.
Each grantee has received $50,000.
