Patricia Driscoll, the former girlfriend of NASCAR driver Kurt Busch, resigned Tuesday from her role as the executive director of a charity for wounded service members after allegations of fiscal mismanagement, according to ESPN. The Armed Services Foundation board had placed Ms. Driscoll on administrative leave last week amid FBI and Internal Revenue Service investigations of the nonprofit’s finances.
The probes were prompted by a prior ESPN report, drawn from a whistleblower complaint by a former foundation staff member, alleging that Ms. Driscoll used tens of thousands of dollars from the Washington, D.C.-based charity for personal and business expenses. A foundation spokesman said the group has commenced its own investigation and commissioned an outside audit. Brian Cooke, the charity’s chief of staff since 2013, was named to replace Ms. Driscoll, who led the foundation for 12 years.
