Nature Conservancy and United Way US Get New Leaders (Transitions)

Leadership Changes Made at Nature Conservancy

Mark Tercek has stepped down as CEO of the Nature Conservancy after 11 years. He announced his departure just one week after the resignation of its president, Brian McPeek, continuing the fallout of an internal investigation into workplace sexual misconduct.

United Way U.S. Has New CEO

Suzanne McCormick will become president of the U.S. arm of the group on July 31. Currently she is president and CEO of United Way Suncoast, in Tampa, Fla. She follows Mary Sellers, who is stepping down after two years in the role.

Marguerite Casey CEO to Retire

Luz Vega-Marquis, founding president of the Marguerite Casey Foundation, has announced plans to retire next year.

She was the first Latina to be appointed chief executive of a national foundation and founded Hispanics in Philanthropy. Marguerite Casey has assets of about $800 million.

Citi Foundation Leader Moves to Head Wells Fargo Fund

Brandee McHale, who most recently led the Citi Foundation, will serve as president of the Wells Fargo Foundation, which has announced a $1 billion pledge for affordable housing. She will take over on August 1. The Wells Fargo Foundation’s outgoing president, Jon Campbell, will stay on through the end of the year to help with the transition.

New York Times Creates Philanthropy Job

Sharon Pian Chan, vice president for innovation, product, and development at the Seattle Times, has been appointed vice president for philanthropy at the New York Times, working with charities, foundations, and other groups to foster independent journalism.

Prudential Foundation Names New CEO

Shané Harris, vice president for corporate giving at Prudential Financial, is now president of the $154 million corporate foundation. She will oversee the company’s recent commitment to provide $35 million in grants and $145 million in loans and investments to improve access to education, training, and jobs for young people worldwide.

Raikes Foundation Selects CEO

Dennis Quirin,

president of Neighborhood Funders Group, will become executive director of the $131 million Raikes Foundation in September. The fund was created by Jeff Raikes, former head of the Gates Foundation, and his wife, Tricia.n
