Four foundations have contributed a total of $20-million to create a new fund to support artists, reports The New York Times.
The new fund will give 50 artists $50,000 apiece with no strings attached, the newspaper said. The Ford Foundation provided $15-million, and the Rockefeller, Prudential and Rasmuson Foundations provided the rest.
The goal is for the new fund, run by an organization called United States Artists, to serve as a conduit for individual donors who want to support artists but don’t know how best to identify them.
