Big Gifts to Foundations

Foundations received 39.5 percent of the $7.8 billion that the Philanthropy 50 gave away.

Tech Titans Gave Big

The Philanthropy 50 includes 12 donors in the tech industry, who collectively gave nearly $3.8 billion in 2018; that’s 48 percent of the total contributed by all donors on the list.

From Youngest to Oldest

Priscilla Chan, 33, is the youngest on the list, and Charles Munger, 95, is the oldest living donor on the list. The median age is 69. The number of individual living donors adds up to 76 because some are couples. Not all donors disclosed their age.

Geographic Breakdown

The District of Columbia and 29 states have no donors on the list.
