Chicago’s Goodman Theater will produce a five-hour adaptation of Roberto Bolaño’s novel “2666” entirely with funds provided by Roy Cockrum, who won a $153-million Powerball jackpot in Tennessee last summer, The New York Times reports. The show is scheduled for the 2015-16 season.
The grant, from the Roy Cockrum Foundation, will be “in the high six or low seven figures,” according to the theater. The 58-year-old Episcopal monk and former actor and stage manager established the fund to support projects at nonprofit theaters that “reach beyond their normal scope of activities and undertake ambitious and creative productions.”
