Here are notable new requests for proposals for the Covid-19 outbreak, compiled by the Chronicle:
A Better Chicago
A Better Chicago is now accepting grant applications for projects and programs that provide financial assistance to low-income youth and families in Chicago that are experiencing significant hardship because of the pandemic, with a specific focus on black and Latino youths in the city. Grants will range from $20,000 to $100,000 over three to six months. Organizations should be located in Cook County, DuPage County, Kane County, Lake County, McHenry County, and Will County.
AbbVie
The AbbVie Covid-19 Community Resilience Fund will award $5 million in grants to organizations that are working to support health-care systems and increase community resilience in poorer areas during the Covid-19 pandemic. Grants are worth up to $1 million each in financial support.
Akonadi Foundation
The Akonadi Foundation has allocated $1 million from its endowment for rapid-response grants to organizations and projects in Oakland, Calif., that are led by people of color and serve people on the frontlines of responding to community needs during the Covid-19 pandemic. Grants of $10,000 for general operating support are available. Priority will go to organizations with budgets under $500,000, and groups that advance the leadership of women, trans, queer and nonbinary communities; immigrant and undocumented communities; and formerly or currently incarcerated people and their families. Grants will be awarded on a rolling basis and will be distributed in two cycles, with $500,000 disbursed between April and June, and $500,000 disbursed between July and September.
Bread & Roses Community Fund
The Solidarity Fund for Covid-19 Organizing is providing emergency grants of up to $10,000 each to grassroots community-organizing groups in the Philadelphia area. Eligible organizations must be located in Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, or Camden County and have plans for organizing social-change campaigns related to the Covid-19 pandemic. Applications will be reviewed weekly.
Cleveland Foundation
The Greater Cleveland Covid-19 Rapid Response Fund is accepting applications for grants to provide immediate funding to groups addressing urgent health, human-services, and economic needs primarily in Ohio’s Cuyahoga, Lake and Geauga Counties. Grants awarded so far have ranged from $22,000 to $285,000. The fund will make grants once a week through June.
Community Foundation of the New River Valley
The Community Foundation of the New River Valley is offering unrestricted grants through the Covid-19 Response Grant Program. Organizations that serve people in Virginia’s New River Valley may apply for grants worth up to $2,000 each. Grants will be issued once a month through at least June.
Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance
The Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance, in partnership with the City of Philadelphia’s Office of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy and the Philadelphia Cultural Fund, will make at least $3 million in grants through the Covid-19 Arts Aid PHL Fund to support artists and arts organizations in the Philadelphia region. Small arts and culture organizations with annual budgets under $250,000, and midsize organizations with budgets of $250,000 to $15 million, may apply for grants to support their operations during the Covid-19 pandemic. Individual artists and small arts organizations with urgent need will receive the first round of funding.
Greater Washington Community Foundation
The Greater Washington Community Foundation is accepting requests for grants from the Covid-19 Emergency Response Fund to support emergency preparedness and response efforts in Maryland, Northern Virginia, and Washington, D.C. Proposals should focus on addressing lost wages, providing relief for small businesses and gig-economy workers, expanding access to medical services, and supporting people experiencing homelessness, among other needs. Grants will cover a 12-week period and are expected to be worth between $10,000 and $100,000 each. The deadline is rolling, and applications will be reviewed weekly.
Green Bay Packers
The Packers Give Back Covid-19 Community Relief Fund will make $500,000 in grants to nonprofit groups in the Milwaukee area. Grants will be awarded on a rolling basis and are designated to provide financial support for specific Covid-19 relief efforts in recipients’ respective communities, both immediately and as needs arise due to the unknown effects of the pandemic.
Home Grown
Home Grown will make at least $1.2 million in grants to nonprofit organizations that provide emergency support for in-home child-care centers, in particular those that care for the children of essential workers. Grants will be worth up to $100,000 each to purchase cleaning supplies and services, make up for lost wages and income, and provide paid leave for workers. The fund anticipates making between 10 and 15 grants, which will be awarded on a rolling basis.
Maddie’s Fund
Maddie’s Fund will make $1 million in grants to help animal shelters and rescue organizations create, continue, or expand foster-care programs for pets across the United States during the pandemic. Grants of up to $20,000 are available. Applications are due April 17.
Novartis
The Novartis U.S. Foundation will award grants worth between $100,000 and $250,000 each to nonprofit groups through its U.S. Covid-19 Community Response Fund. The pharmaceutical company’s foundation is accepting proposals for programs to strengthen local and national health care infrastructure to meet increased demand and protect frontline health workers; establish digital platforms for coronavirus-related data collection; offer remote delivery of health care services and effective dissemination of important public-health information; and create or enhance new community-health programs specific to the pandemic response. Priority will go to nonprofit groups in California, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and North Carolina. Up to $5 million will be paid out this year through the fund.
NYC Covid-19 Response & Impact Fund
The NYC Covid-19 Response & Impact Fund, administered by the New York Community Trust, will provide $75 million in grants and interest-free loans to small and midsize nonprofits in the city to help them respond to emerging needs and continue their work. Of particular interest are nonprofit groups in New York that work in arts and culture and human services and will suffer financial losses from the coronavirus pandemic. Applications are due April 22.
Rasmuson Foundation
The Rasmuson Foundation, Premera Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alaska, and the Alaska Community Foundation are providing $3 million in grants to improve access to health clinics and patient care in Alaska communities. Eligible projects include the purchase of medical and dental equipment, technology, and vehicles, as well as equipment for emergency services, facility renovations, renovations, and supplies related to Covid-19. Grants will be in the $25,000 to $50,000 range. Applications are due April 24.
Reinvestment Fund
The Philadelphia Emergency Fund for Stabilization of Early Education is making grants to preschools and other early-childhood-education groups in Philadelphia to help them continue to offer learning programs and other services to families in need during the pandemic. The grant program was created with a $5 million grant from William Penn Foundation and a $2 million grant from Vanguard’s Strong Start for Kids Program. Grants worth up to $20,000 each will be awarded to organizations located in Philadelphia.
