Venture capitalist John Doerr is giving Rice University $50 million to develop an institute aimed at equipping students with modern leadership skills, the Houston Chronicle and the Associated Press report.
Set to launch in July at the Houston campus, the Doerr Institute for New Leaders will focus on teaching students how to wield influence, be confident, and work effectively on a team rather than emphasizing traditional, hierarchical leadership, according to the donor and others involved in the project.
