Centre College, a small Kentucky institution, announced today that a $250-million gift it announced in July has been withdrawn, the Associated Press reports.
The college said in a news release on Monday that the donation from the A. Eugene Brockman Charitable Trust depended on a “significant capital market event” and could not come together in time. The donation was significant for Centre: It was bigger than its entire endowment.
See The Chronicle’s article on how the gift was obtained.
