The Sunlight Foundation announced Tuesday that Christopher Gates is stepping down as president after less than a year and a half at the helm of the government transparency group, Poynter.org reports.
Mr. Gates joined Sunlight from another Washington, D.C., nonprofit, Philanthropy for Active Civic Engagement, in September 2014. He said in a Facebook post that “it’s time for me to move on to find my next challenge” but did not elaborate on his exit.
A foundation spokesman declined to comment on the circumstances of Mr. Gates’s departure. In a statement to Poynter, Sunlight co-founder Michael Klein praised Mr. Gates’s tenure and said the 10-year-old organization aims “to pursue a refreshed vision as we enter our second decade.”
