Veteran Community Organizer to Lead Racial-Equity Work at Kellogg Foundation

W.K. Kellogg Foundation

Alvin Herring has been named director of racial equity and community engagement. He comes to the foundation from the PICO National Network, a coalition of faith-based community-organizing groups, where he has served as deputy director of faith and formation.

The Rev. Herring, an African Methodist Episcopal minister, will help manage Kellogg’s programs and grants related to racial equality, racial healing, and community engagement. He will also work to integrate these elements into the foundation’s national grant-making strategy and community-based programs in Michigan, Mississippi, New Mexico, and New Orleans.

Prior to joining PICO, he served as executive director of the Working Interfaith Network in Baton Rouge, La., and the Muhammad Ali Institute for Peace and Justice in Louisville, Ky., among a host of nonprofit posts.

Western Union Foundation

Elizabeth Roscoe, head of global product marketing, brand, and communications for Western Union Business Solutions, was named executive director.

Other appointments:

Brian Agnew, former corporate chief development officer at the Robert Wood Johnson Health System, was appointed vice president for institutional advancement at Georgian Court University.

Mary Hastings, executive director of the American London Symphony Orchestra Foundation, was appointed vice president for institutional advancement at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.

Elizabeth Boluch Wood, vice president for development at Princeton University, was named chief development officer at the Institute for Advanced Study.

Legacies:

LeRoy “Roy” Hoffberger, a leading Baltimore philanthropist who co-founded the American Visionary Art Museum, died August 3 at age 91.

Suzanne Wright, co-founder of Autism Speaks, died on July 29 in Fairfield, Conn. She was 69.
