A nonprofit that evaluates veterans’ and military-related charities has removed the controversial Wounded Warrior Project from its roster of accredited organizations, The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Officials at the Patriots Initiative, headquartered in San Diego, said Florida-based Wounded Warrior failed to satisfy many of their criteria for donor engagement and success.
Another nonprofit watchdog, Charity Navigator, added Wounded Warrior to its “CN Watchlist” in January after CBS and The New York Times reported on the group spending large sums of money on hotels, dinners, conferences, and travel.
